Bud was a very special dog, who came to us from some
very special friends. I had fallen in love with Bud when I first
met him, back in 1993 or 94. It was because of what I saw in Bud
(and in Dusty [Kriskellas Stardust Delight ROMP]), that we got Webster
and all our subsequent dogs from the Abbotts (Kriskella Samoyeds,
Cheyenne, Wyoming).
Shortly before we lost Tripper,
Bud retired from Geoff Abbott's sled team. After Tripper
died, Geoff and Brenda knew we needed another dog, and that we weren't
ready for another puppy. They offered to let Bud come live with us
for his retirement years. As you can see from the picture above,
Bud had no trouble making the adjustment! Neither did we!!
I showed Bud a few times as a Veteran, and he took one
BOB at 11 1/2 years old! As a working therapy dog, Bud brought
smiles, and tears of joy to many nursing home residents in Las
Cruces, New Mexico. There was one man who normally sat silently,
but during one of his visits with Bud, he started talking softly.
Telling Bud things that only he could hear. The next time we saw
him, he again spoke to Bud, a little bit louder this time. The
nurse told me that talking to Bud was the first talking the man had done
in the time he had been in the nursing home.

Bud had many things going for him:
- Gorgeous head
- Gorgeous biscuit coat
- Gorgeous angles
- An absolutely "To Die For" front assembly
- Dreamy temperament
- Driven work ethic
Bud has passed these attributes down to his kids and
grandkids. I feel very fortunate to have lived with him, and
to have two of his kids and one grandkid. |
